Demon King Daimao Review – A Good Harem Anime in 2010

Demon King Daimao or Ichiban Ushiro not Daimaou (in Japanese) is a good harem anime. It’s safe to say that the enjoyment of this anime can be inversely proportional to the amount of plot packed into a single episode. Simply put, the more plot, the less fun. As a harem anime, it doesn’t exist to focus on brains. You should know that if you are going to watch this anime then you are watching it for a big laugh and a little smile too. You will love the battle scenes and you will never learn the names of the characters as they are referred to by their hair color.

story

This anime starts off pretty strong for me, it’s funny, it’s pretty well paced, the characters are interesting, and even though there are hints of being a little generic at times in the first few episodes, I dismissed them as everything else was good.

The entry begins in a train station, the main protagonist Sai Akuto boarded the train to his new school with expectations of becoming a priest, how completely wrong will his dreams turn out to be.

Artwork

The art was a bit plain. It felt like the fluidity and movement was really nice, but left more to be desired when someone wasn’t kicking it. If you were to compare this to various other harem anime, it just doesn’t seem to be very different visually. But that’s okay. There are awesome battle scenes.

Aki Toyosaki does a very amazing job as Soga Keena, but if you don’t like her then I suggest turning down the volume, she’s going to take up a lot of screen time and mean a load of crap. Aoi Yuuki also had a great voice. She voiced a monotone character but did a good job of making her not sound so monotone. I really had no love for the OP or even the ED. But they are perfectly suited to a harem anime, and you will probably like them because the music can be a developed taste.

The characters

The main cast is a palette of fun. Everyone has different and unique hair colors door so they are easy to distinguish. This is where harem anime has a lot of trouble. A harem offers established archetypal characters and will not create an original loving wife. I’m not saying that any women in this anime are poorly written. Each one is written with her personality in mind, but never strays from what the book says. Red is air, blue is tsundere, Purple is masochistic, and Green is emotionless. Each of them can be summed up in one word.

Despite the many things working against this anime, you will find many moments where you will seriously just laugh. I enjoyed a great part of this anime. The only problem I really had was with the plot. But that’s okay! I remembered that it was a harem anime, and anyone who doesn’t remember that main factor should try to understand that some brainless humor is great every now and then.

The African understanding of sexual awareness is more than about sexual pleasure, it is also a self-reflective process rooted in the concept of surrender-surrender to the facets of ourselves that are more unruly, highly energized, spontaneous, unpredictable, uncertain, and closer to the primal forces of nature. Similarly the African understanding of “sexual union” is not always about “sexual penetration” but about extending and experiencing the flow of raw sexual or erotic energy using all of our senses.

Sexual abstinence (no sexual intercourse) is not equated to “chastity” in which an individual chooses to deliberately abstain from any sexual union, pleasure or expression of sexual desire for religious purposes. An individual can enter a “sex fast,” a selective kind of sexual abstinence in which one withdraws or withholds from certain sexual practices in order to heighten other particular senses while completing a task or undertaking. These are choices that one makes consciously.

In many traditional African societies men and women, young and old, have the “permission” to be openly sexual in a culturally acceptable way…

Sexual expression and enjoyment is not something that simply happens when a young man or woman reaches a certain chronological age. Parents and close family members are fully responsible for sexual education at the child’s early age, but as boys and girls reach puberty, the community is responsible for their sexual education to ensure that they have sexually fulfilling lives. The community hands over this responsibility for adolescent sexual education to same-gender elders selected for their position in the community, their erotic experience, and inherited abilities to understand the intricate nature of sexual relationships.

Coming of age rituals begin at ages ranging from 12-18 years and can last up to five years. Girls and boys are often taken out of the community, away from the concerns of everyday life, to teach them all the ways of adulthood. They are exposed to rigorous studies of the self, one’s purpose in life and contribution to society. While in a non-threatening environment, the initiates are guided to uncover their sense of self and to examine their beliefs, values, and thoughts-(Who am I? What is the meaning of my existence? What do I have within me to achieve my life’s purpose? How do I know the truth? How do I know when I’ve stepped out of harmony with who I truly am? Etc.).

Before joining the adult community, they also learn about the changes happening in their minds and bodies as well as the responsibilities that come with those changes, rules and taboos of the society, moral instruction, and social responsibility. Their education also includes the “how to” of sex. Knowledge in the elements of sexual performance is given and demonstrated in an explicit manner. This knowledge is, in all cases, considered sacred and secret, and not to be shared with the uninitiated or “outsiders.”

Boys learn a masculine cockiness whose discourse is centered on protecting, taking care of, and giving pleasure to women…

Their sexual “how to” education includes knowledge about “medicinal plants,” (see Uganda Sex Tree – National Georgraphic) ideas about sexual prowess, endurance, and “sex-fasts”-rituals of abstinence used to heighten the senses.

The curriculum of the rites of passage for girls is centered on self-awareness, grace, and dignity. Their “pleasure” education includes how to emotionally and physically prepare themselves for intercourse and includes such practices as clitoris elongation and massage; masturbation (looking for the bean in the oil as they call it); the use of tantalizing, jingling, and jangling sexual movements enhanced with musical sounds, beads, body decorations, scents, and incense that heighten sexual pleasure. Girls also learn about culturally prescribed coital positions and art of lovemaking (see Teaching Safe Sex, Ugandan-style).

The months immediately following initiation into adulthood are a time of exploration, fun, joyfulness, laughter, and defining one’s sexual identity and assertiveness. Girls and boys move away from playing with their own sexual peers to exploring relationships with the opposite gender-playing pranks; engaging in petty altercations; feigned pain, disgust, and anger; mutual teasing such as addressing each other as “heartthrob,” “sweetheart,” “husband,” or “wife.”

Girls say to boys, things like, “You are so much in love with me, you can’t sleep at night”; “You look at me and wish you could have me but all you can do is just look”; “You are all talk but when it comes to it you cannot even keep it up for half the night,” etc. And boys say to girls, “Have you fed our baby?”; “Would you mind preparing my dinner tonight, dear wife?”; “Even my snake knows you because it raises its head whenever it sees you,” etc.

The relationship between young men and women becomes more physical because of their engagement in co-ed wrestling and stage-acted fighting routines and riddling games meant to express wit and sexuality. Young men and women also learn culturally acceptable sexual expression and public sexual contact through formalized flirtation and seduction dance ceremonies, sometimes called moonlight dances or mating dances. These are settings in which young people ages 12-18 are allowed (more like expected) to explore seductive and flirtatious communication that includes silent speech and suggestive and provocative dance moves. The dances take place during the full moon in a special arena cleared for the occasion, or in a chief’s or elder’s compound.

For every young person, these are special occasions that require a lot of preparation-plaiting the hair, decorating the body with ornaments and plant dyes, whitening the teeth using certain roots, and so forth.

Dances begin at dusk when the drum that summons the dancers is sounded…

The dance itself is performed in a circle, with the dancers facing the centre, or in a line following a circular path with the drummers in the middle. In some dances, boys and girls alternate dancing inside the circle while the opposite sex admires their dance moves. In other dances, individuals step into the circle one after the other. A dancer is rated primarily on his or her ability to stamp out the rhythm of the drum with his or her feet and to follow the musical rhythm of the song with the simultaneous use of the torso and shoulders, and the rapid vibrations or twists of the buttocks and pelvis. Characteristic rhythmic patterns vary from culture to culture, and from dance to dance within one culture, but the common feature in all cultures is the simultaneous rhythmic body articulation, foot-stamping, and/or light leaping movements. The drummers and other dancers respond to a good performance by a lively chorus usually laden with erotic innuendo.

I remember one particular song in my birth language which when translated into English goes something like this:

Each dancer then steps into the circle and completes the sentence with erotic motions and movement that mirror and reflect an evolving identity and personality, expressing individual freedom and pent-up emotions.

The sensuous abandon leaves little to the imagination as the dancer flirts with his or her audience with the use of the eyes, and as he or she ripples with imaginative erotic movements and overall bodily experience.

The African subtle, bred-in-the-bone, curiously innocent sensuousness should not be confused with grabbing crotches à la Michael Jackson or table top clutching and flashing breasts. It’s not a strip tease either, but more like a hypnotic eroticism that draws its power from fascination with the implied — creativity, imagination and suggestion — and generates plenty of erotic electricity that pulls in all those around.

A dancing African is not at all concerned about what he or she looks like when dancing or with whom he or she is dancing with…

A man will dance with a woman. Men will dance with men. Women will dance with women. Children will dance with elders. Humans will dance with domesticated animals. And most of the time, an African will dance with no one at all except him or herself.

The tempo of the drumming, singing, clapping, cheers, and ululations all combine to bring the dancer into an ecstatic state. And when ecstasy grips, the dancer is transported into another world, and sometimes has to be woken up by some kind of rude reality — like falling hard on the ground.

Even the most reluctant observer testifies to the hopelessness of resistance once the “heart throbs like a native drum.” It’s like one is drawn in by an omnipotent will. You feel it in your heart, your chest begins to expand. It spreads throughout the body and you begin to involuntarily move. It enters your bones and you just give up. How can you resist something more powerful than yourself?

Dancers learn to heighten their senses and focus their sexual energy to achieve a state of ecstasy…

Surrender, abandon, or to “lose control,” is an art in African cultures, something that is taught from the day a child is born because it is believed that without the required skill to artfully do so, we would “lose control” rebelliously, blindly, recklessly, and dangerously. If we get hurt during such times, it would only reinforce our fear of abandon and surrender, steering us away from the ability to really enjoy life.

During the rites of passage, young people go through rituals and dances that help them learn how to skillfully and deliberately surrender or loosen up-turning oneself over to the power of the unknown and unknowable. These rituals are based on the philosophy that says that when we are most truly vulnerable, we are more of ourselves, more open, more trusting, and free to follow the intuitive and spontaneous erotic impulses of our hearts and souls. It is only by entering this door of helpless surrender that we discover true intimacy.

One performance is followed by another .. and there are songs and dances to court lovers as well as songs to insult rivals…

Over the course of the night, songs easily become a battle of the sexes, and in most cases, turn into sexual seduction. Some daring and overly self-confident young man will inevitably, from time to time, dance towards the girls flaunting his hips or pelvis. The girls then mockingly strike back by tightly knitting their arms around one another’s waists. This stops the young man from singling out any particular one girl as his target for teasing. But some young men are not repelled by this kind of sisterly bonding and will continue to approach, sending the girls running away, laughing, and screaming euphorically, only to come back and join the dance.

It is at times like these that girls and boys practice what they’ve been taught about erotic rituals, the art of seduction, and the effective way of transmitting sexual energy and attracting attention in order to be chosen by the opposite sex. Girls learn that showing off healthy skin and child-bearing hips, eye or soul-gazing, and a confident and cheerful personality gets the boys all wound up. Boys on the other hand, learn that physical fitness and flexibility, playfulness and cockiness, are attributes that make one stand out.

During the breaks when drummers change to dancers and other dancers take over the drumming, boys and girls step aside into the less lit corners, either in groups or pairs. There may be affectionate petting, stroking and caressing, but sexual intercourse is not supposed to take place — well, sometimes it does.

In many traditional African societies, boys and girls are strictly forbidden to engage in penetrative sex until they are properly initiated into adult status. Many cultures have what is accepted or permissible as adolescent or “immature sex” and what is considered adult or mature sex. Adolescents may be permitted to engage in all forms of sexual pleasure except penetrative sex. In many cultures, penetrative sex is believed to be harmful mainly because the girl will get pregnant out of wed-lock, something that is considered a severe disgrace to her family status. Usually brothers and cousins monitor their sisters or cousins to make sure no sexual intercourse takes place and also to make sure no young man tries to force them into doing anything against their will. The more respected and feared a girl’s brothers and cousins are, the more respectful young men are towards her.

Parents and elders as a whole do not interfere with the flirtations of their children…

Some parents may sit at a distance and watch for socially unacceptable behaviour. A boy or girl who disrespects the family name with unacceptable behaviour is heavily punished. Depending on the gravity of the crime, punishment can be anything from scolding, to spanking with a leather whip.

Enabling the sexes to meet on neutral ground, openly and respectably, tends to remove some of the secrecy and unhealthy curiosity that is part of the mental transition from the self-contained experience of early youth to the new awareness of the new polarity of the sexes. Teen competitiveness, constant body contact, and purported romantic liaisons all provide individual and interactive challenges, and contribute to personal maturation, social development, and spiritual enrichment. They provide an individual a level of confidence and exuberance that comes from a healthy sexual attitude and a healthy sexual life.

These mating dances are often fruitful arenas for initiating relationships — traditional dating agencies as it were — supervised by elderly persons experienced in such affairs…

Unfortunately, traditional systems of sexual education are quickly disappearing and many young people today get little or no meaningful sexual induction. Contemporary or “modern” African societies mostly concentrated in urban centers and townships have adopted the culture of “passing the buck” with reference to the social institutions that ought to take care of children and undertake sexual education in the early years of development. The family passes the responsibility to the school, the school to the church, while the church, in turn, passes it back to the family. In the end, the child gets no proper instruction. Most of what many African children raised in urban and sub-urban Africa know about sex is from the little sexual information they come across in books, on television, and from their peers. This serves as a means by which they define their sexual identities and behaviours.

As Africa becomes more “modernized,” adolescence to adulthood passage rites are being replaced with getting a driver’s license, getting drunk, or getting laid. Many modern Africans have discarded the slow, subtle arts of flirtation and charm that our ancestors have used successfully for thousands of years, and replaced them with the “modern” quick, direct strikes — punching his or her number into the cell phone, grinding and bumping with him or her on the dance floor, rubbing his shoulders or her feet, and having sex with each other senseless — all within an hour.

Young people are growing up uneasy and uncomfortable about their bodies and most are out of touch with their sexual thoughts, feelings, and bodily responses. Many are sexually confused, anxious, and insecure. Formal schools and universities in modern Africa are often centres of even greater sexual recklessness and promiscuity on the one hand, and ignorance and repressed sexual uptightness on the other.

Similar cultural stories are being written in other parts of the world, all over the globe. This is a call for all of us, people all over the world, to wake up, reflect, see where we’ve fallen away, and to begin to heal ourselves towards a healthy sexuality.

Disclaimer: Much of what I discuss here does not apply to “African cultures” that are a mixture of borrowed fragments of modernity and exhausted relics of tradition but rather to Sub-Saharan African cultures that have not been influenced much by “modern” ideas and concepts, Judeo-Christianity and Islam.

The Feelings of Grief

I sometimes find myself walking down the street thinking about my daughter’s wedding. I imagine how the lovely bride and her proud groom will look in their festive outfits. I see the loving smiles of friends and family in attendance at this deeply meaningful moment in our lives. I envision how I will feel watching our youngest child begin a new life on this most special of days. And of course, the sight of the joyous dancing and singing takes me to a wonderful place of rapture. Ah yes, the joyous dancing and singing! What might seem strange to some people is the fact that no engagement has taken place, and no ring rests on my daughter’s finger. Such events are not likely to occur in the near future. My daughter, you see, has recently turned seven years old, and I know that she is more concerned with beginning the second grade than with ceremony planning and wedding cake.

Yet I as her father am full of hopes about her life, for to love someone deeply is to invest in them dreams about the future. People we care about are often our unwitting dreamkeepers. They guard our most precious and often unexpressed wishes and hopes. I have spoken not one word about “my wedding plans” to my daughter. Such dreams as these are clearly not bound to a present or even possibly a future reality. They are full of assumptions about how I want my life and my daughter’s life to unfold. They are full of my hoped for projections into the future. When I dream about my daughter’s wedding I assume that I, my wife and other children will all be alive at that time, that my daughter’s sexual orientation will be heterosexual, and that she will choose to get married. In truth, I have no foolproof knowledge about any of these matters. I have something much deeper than knowledge – I have my dreams.

However, if and when these “core level dreams”, as therapist and writer Ken Moses, Ph.D. labels them, fail to reach fruition, I , the dreamer, must learn to live with the fallout from shattered assumptions. Should my daughter not get married, I will have to come to terms with my unfulfilled dreams. I will have to separate from my deep attachment to these core level hopes, and will have to learn to live in a world in which my hoped for projections into the future have come to naught.

We have a name for this “emotional fallout” – it is called grief. Shattered dreams, and hence grief, wreak havoc with the maps of our lives and inner worlds. And thus, when a woman’s husband dies, she perhaps has lost more than a companion, a sexual partner, or a father to their children. Perhaps she has lost a dream that reads: “my husband will protect me from ever again having to feel alone and unworthy.” For many years that woman has been able to hold her fear about being a separate and whole person at arm’s length. That fear now envelops her, and it can not be pushed away, despite all her attempts to do so. This woman is now on the path of grief.

In a state of deep grief old trusted paths are strewn with roadblocks. Familiar emotional landmarks are no longer recognizable. Is there any greater “stranger in a strange land” than the person who has lost a loved one – someone reeling from the shattering of a core level dream? When I am coping with my loss, I am involved in drawing a new map of my world. The feelings of grief are my companions and even guides through this difficult and painful endeavor. For you see, the deepest part of me does not want to draw this new map. I want the old roads, the old highways. I was comfortable with the “emotional geography” of my existence. And so I keep trying to reconstruct my old life, yet inevitably I fail. The feelings of grief that ensue highlight my failure, and remind me that the old world is no more, and push me, often against my will, to explore new territory.

The various feelings of grief place me in front of an existential mirror. I see my reflection and I have to answer many important questions. Who am I know that my loved one has died? Where do I belong now? What do I believe in now? How do I explain my life to myself? How can I live with the often repugnant and revolting feelings I am forced to encounter on a near daily basis?

In Ken Moses’ formulation, highlighted in his article “The Impact of Childhood Disability,” (Ways Magazine, Spring 1987) the major feelings of grief each contain an existential situation or question that begs for a response. I answer these questions through my day to day experiences in a loss filled world. Each attempt at living a new life, whether it is deemed a “success” or “failure,” contributes to my bushwhacking through the jungle of my new life. The feelings of grief push me into new territory, and help me create a new emotional landscape for myself.

Below I present a description of the major feelings of grief, and of the existential questions imbedded in each feeling. The reader is cautioned to remember that grief is not a linear process, but one of ongoing loops. These feelings do not appear in an orderly fashion, and clearly can be experienced in varying forms over the course of one’s grief journey.

Anxiety

When I lose someone I love, I am constantly surrounded by my awareness of his or her absence. I no longer feel safe within my own skin. My body is playing tricks on me. At times my heart is wildly palpitating, beating with a fierceness that often leads me to expect that my chest might explode. At other times I am lightheaded and dizzy. Perhaps I feel shaky and out of balance. Sweat pours from my glands at unexpected moments. I formerly experienced my body as a friend. It now seems to be my enemy. I am anxious, and I hate feeling this way.

My anxiety is a clarion call whose message is unmistakable: my life is not working. My old way has worn out. As much as I want it to return, I can’t make it happen. Anxiety is the fuel that leads me change my present way of being in the world. I can ‘t sit still. I know no ease and comfort. For me to feel at peace in my own body and soul I must make serious adjustments in my hopes and expectations about life and all it has to offer.

Depression

When my loved one was by my side, either literally or figuratively, physically or emotionally, I experienced a sense of freedom to move about in my world and make some choices about how I wanted to invest my energy. Perhaps I put my energies into my work, and I become the best I can possibly be in my field of employment. I derive tremendous satisfaction from my sense of competence that results from my deep involvement in my job.

Or perhaps I put my energies into being the best possible husband I can be. My greatest efforts are invested into my relationship with my wife. I feel competent as a human being because my beliefs about the supreme importance of marriage are being actualized on a daily basis. The moments I spend with my wife continuously reinforce the positive sense I have about myself that I am good and worthy.

And then…. whether it is through a protracted illness or from a sudden cataclysmic moment, my wife is no more. She has died, and I am empty and bereft. I am depressed. I wander through my life as if in a dream. I once knew what made me important, what made me valuable. But now I am buried in sadness. My vision of myself is reduced for I can barely see through my near constant tears. I walk with stooped shoulders. The weight of my burden is excruciating. My work no longer brings me pleasure or meaning. It was once my essence, a wellspring of meaning and vitality, but now it matters not in the least. Money, status, power, and knowledge: none of these seem important any more. I am no good without my wife. I can no longer be the man I loved being, for I am no longer a husband. My sense of competence has been robbed from me, and my depression forces me to ask: how can I recreate a new sense of meaning for myself? How do I rediscover a renewed sense of human competence when old categories of meaning are no loner viable? What now makes me good and worthy? Depression leads me towards an exploration of deeper emotional territory and formerly unknown parts of my being.

Fear

Each time I become close to another human being, I become vulnerable. My loved ones become important to me as I open up the tender and soft parts of my heart. I allow myself to be affected by their presence and absence. I take risks in sharing my most innermost thoughts and feelings, and over time, as my deepest self is respected and honored, I become intimate with my loved one through a process mutual sharing. Even though closeness requires ongoing infusion of vulnerability, the love I receive in return brings me a sense of protection and safety.

And now with the loss or death of my loved one my heart has been broken. I have no more protective covering. My heart is exposed to violent fluctuations of feelings. I am afraid – afraid that I will never again know love and affection. Afraid that I will forever remain in this morass of pain and disillusionment. How can I ever trust another soul with my deepest love, pain and desire? I can’t take the risk of becoming intimately close with another human being again. I know what it is like to lose love, and I can’t ever again face that heartbreak. Yet as time goes on I begin to feel lonely. I feel alienated from the rush of true human vitality. I need contact, companionship, and camaraderie. Maybe there is a way to become close without giving away the keys to my heart. I am afraid. I soon discover that this path of half in and half out doesn’t work. There is no safe middle ground. Love requires whole heartedness. Love requires risk. I am afraid.

My fear asks me: how intimate do you want to become with loved ones now that you know up close that lost love brings grief and pain? Can you afford to love once again? Can you afford to not love once again?

Guilt

Like all human endeavors, my relationship with my loved one is marked by imperfections. From time to time we hurt each other, acting thoughtlessly or speaking unkind words. Nonetheless, loving feelings predominate over negative feelings, and our relationship continues on its daily journey. I am not overly troubled by my hurtful actions, for always in the back of my mind I think about tomorrow. Whatever goes wrong today can be fixed. I can make it up to my loved one; I can be a better parent, spouse, child or sibling.

And then tomorrow comes no more. There is no more fixing, no more repairing. My loved one is gone, and in her absence I constantly, at times obsessively, return to the instances when I acted improperly at best, cruel at worst. I am horrified by my callous behavior. How could I have been so thick, so self-centered, and so blind to the wonder of my loved one? Perhaps in the stressful days preceding my loved one’s death, I failed to perform the necessary deed or speak the necessary word. If only…. If only I had acted differently, I might not be living with this dreadful loneliness. I repeat in a mantra like fashion: I should have done differently. I should have been better. When I go to sleep, if I can sleep, my failure to act lies down next to me. When I awake, in the middle of the night or in the morning, without fail, I am tortured by my sins of commission or omission.

I am faced with a myriad of questions, and I am empty of explanations. Perhaps if I blame myself I can regain control and a sense of logic to my life. I am filled with guilt, and over time my guilt confronts me and demands to know: how powerful are you? Over what situations do you legitimately have control, and when are you an active observer to the mysterious ways of the world? What are the consequences of your actions, and how cognizant are you of the ramifications of your behavior? Why are you waiting to act in the present moment? And finally, why can you not be more compassionate with yourself given your inherent human limitations?

Anger

With my loved one by my side, the world as it is seems tolerable to me. I can live peacefully with the sundry ills and problems within the human community at large. From time to time I become disturbed with a particular unfair situation or a case of gross injustice, but I am not filled with a bitter rage that unendingly questions the very fabric of existence.

But then my loved one is stolen from me. I have been robbed and I have been cheated. Help me, help me! Something heinous has happened here. A great injustice has been perpetuated. My loved one was not supposed to die! This was not supposed to happen! I have tried to be a good person. I have struggled to live a peaceful and legal life. The death of my loved one was not my just due. I have been violated! We had so many plans to complete. We had not yet exhausted our storehouse of tomorrows. I am bitter and full of venom. This death should not have occurred at this time or in this manner. What about my input? What about my needs? Why me, and why now?

My anger burns with in me, and as my inner world is torched, it asks me the following questions: what is your sense of justice and fairness? Does the world truly follow a pattern of cause and effect? Is there any way to understand what has befallen you without seeing yourself as a powerless victim? Why were you so comfortable with injustice before your loved one died? Can you truly force the world to conform to your standards and needs, or do you need to be more respectful of the mystery of life that seems to dole out its gifts in an unequal fashion? And lastly, is there any way you can use your anger to help make a dent in the pockets of overwhelming suffering in your own community?

As the days, months and years of my life without my loved one continue to pass, I begin to recognize how much I have changed. I am no longer the person I once was when my loved one lived. I am a close relative of that person. Slowly, and with great effort and strain, I find answers, or perhaps more truthfully, approximations of answers to my questions. Perhaps only intimations of answers. I find a way to live with my questions, to live with myself, and to live with the mystery of life that brings that very life to an end. I discover that I am capable of growing and changing. I still do no like what has happened to me, at times I even experience resurgence of old grief feelings, but slowly I begin to take in the truth that loss is part of life. I recognize that I have discovered new strengths in myself, and even uncovered points of vulnerability I never knew existed. Grief has taught me the need to be more compassionate with myself and with others, and to be more mindful of the moment. Grief has bestowed upon me the awareness that I am part of a larger process of attachment-loss-reattachment that is at the center of being human. Perhaps I am sadder, but certainly wiser, as I struggle and learn to dream new dreams.

Top 10 Cartoons of My Life

So I was scouring the guide looking for something to watch – it’s a rarity these days to find something worth seeing. I came across Space Jam on one of the Encore stations. Space Jam has always had a soft spot in my heart, mostly because of the Looney Tunes ensemble (most notably Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, Marvin the Martian, Wile E. Coyote, and Road Runner).

About half way through the movie I had a bit of a nostalgic flashback, thinking about all the cartoons I grew up with and love to this day. I then thought: I want to make a top 10 list of my favorite cartoons of all time. Is the information you need to know? No. Is it information you want to know? Probably not. Do I care if you like this list? Not at all. Anyway, I’m over it.

It’s in descending order from 10-1 (1 is my top show – for those of you who may not process things quickly). No more talk from me, enjoy the list my friends.

10.) The Ren and Stimpy Show

Vulgar and crude are just two of many words to describe this show, but damn was it funny. Who would have ever thought that a silly cat and a crazy chihuahua would work so well as an animated show? Best game ever from this show: “Don’t Pee on the Electric Fence.”

9.) The real Ghostbusters

I used to like the Ghostbusters and stuff, but Slimer definitely made this show for me. He was fat, messy and slimy (hence the name, of course), but I just couldn’t get enough of him. He oozed (had to do it) cool and took no crap.

8.) Family man

Okay, this is more of an animated show than a cartoon, but I can’t get enough of it. I know the show is a hit with the general public, but the style of humor suits my personality, so I kind of bond with the show. I know, it’s weird, but that’s how I roll.

7.) SpongeBob Squarepants

A sponge wearing square pants… ridiculous, absurd, bizarre and destined for failure come to mind when you think about this. Who would have thought it would turn out to be pure genius, and the best cartoon show of this generation. I watch Spongeboob Squirepants (fans will understand) when it’s on Nickelodeon, and I’m proud to admit it.

6.) Rugrats

Tommy, Chuckie, and the Twins were useless to me, even though I was older than them at the time. These little timeless wonders have had more adventures than I can count. My life wouldn’t have been complete without them – pathetic, I know.

5.) Looney Tunes

Well, you had to know that the Looney Tunes would appear somewhere on this list. You have: Bugs who are constantly getting into his antics, and Elmer who is always trying to hunt him down; Marvin the Martian attempts to destroy Earth with his “Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator”; and Wile E. Coyote is constantly blowing himself to bits trying to catch that crafty little Road Runner…beep beep!

4.) Batman: The Animated Series

I will always think of Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, but the true voice of Bruce Wayne/Batman to me will always be Kevin Conroy. He was a demanding presence on the show, and the constant cat-and-mouse games between Bats and the Joker – Mark Hamill kicked ass with the Joker voice – kept the show dark and interesting. I know it’s easy to single out the Joker because he’s the most recognizable villain, but I’ve just always been really intrigued by his antics and what he’ll do next.

3.) Avatar: The last airbender

At first glance, Avatar seems like a cheap anime aimed at children with ADHD who want something beautiful to watch. Boy was I wrong. The storyline and writing are very mature (discover who you are and strive for your full potential), but it doesn’t let go of the fact that it’s still a kids’ show. I want Appa and Momo as my next pets.

2.) Dragon Ball Z (DBZ)

Huge bad ass…yeah, that sounds about right. I watched just about every episode during Frieza’s first appearance and defeat – at one point I felt that the powers in the show were within myself… a kid can dream, can’t he? The show isn’t all wall-to-wall action, but the action sequences were great – there was death, emotion, messages, etc in most episodes. Shows are just stupid piles of junk that have no business on the air. I know what you’re asking yourself, and here’s my answer: I can make a Kamehameha attack.

1.) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987 TV Series)

I’d like to point out first of all that I never got a chance to watch the 2003 series, or much of the recent stuff. Aside from that, the 1987 series was fantastic. I can’t honestly sit here and say there was something award winning about the storyline or the writing. I can sit here and say that everything about the Turtles is ridiculously cool, and every bit deserves the top spot on my list. Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael all had qualities that appealed to numerous personalities. Leonardo as the unofficial leader; Donatello as the braniac; and Michelangelo in the goofy comedic role were all great in their roles… but Raphael takes the cake as the rebellious smart-ass, who sees himself as a much greater leader than Leonardo. Raph is my favorite cartoon character of all time, and to that I say……Cowaabunngaaaa!!!

Goats As Pets

Although often characterized as a farm or work animal, a small goat farm can be very rewarding for the owner and is relatively easy as long as a few basic rules are followed. Facts about goats

Male goats are known as bread and female goats are known by name. Young goats are called kids. Goats generally live 10 to 12 years, although there have been cases of goats living up to 15 years. There are over 300 distinct breeds of goats and they are most closely related to sheep, with which they can be interbred, although this is not recommended. The main products associated with goats are milk, cheese, meat, mohair and cashmere wool.

Goat products

Goat milk is becoming increasingly popular and a large dairy doe can produce 3,000 to 5,000 pounds of milk each year (2 to 3 quarts per day). In most areas milk will need to be pasteurized if you want to sell it commercially, although you can drink untreated milk from your own goats. You should be aware that there is some research that suggests health risks with consuming unpasteurized goat’s milk. As with milk, there is a growing demand for goat meat and it is claimed to have health benefits compared to other red meats and chicken. If you intend to sell the meat, you will need to follow the rules that a small commercial processor must follow. The rules are less strict if the meat is intended for your own consumption. Some goat owners find it more practical to outsource the slaughter to a licensed butcher. Goats are also valued for three types of fibers, mohair, cashmere and cashgora.

Goat housing

A dry, vibration-free building is suggested which will protect them from the elements and provide adequate protection from rodents and other predators. Rodents can cause disease as well as eat and contaminate food and water supplies. In terms of dimensions, there should be enough space to allow the goats to stand upright on their hind legs with their necks extended. If laid separately, each goat should have about 4 m2. of floor space. If the goats are housed in a group in the same area, a minimum of 2 m2. should be provided for goats, although more than this minimum is recommended if conflict is to be avoided. Horned and dehorned or hornless goats must be dug up separately.

Goat food

Although they have a reputation for eating almost anything, they will not thrive if they are not provided with the right balances in their diet. While they will eat weeds and other vegetation including pasture, they will need access to good quality hay. Legume hay contains more minerals, vitamins and nutrients, although, as with other hays, quality can vary depending on harvesting, preparation and storage.

Goat health

There are a number of diseases that can affect a goat in both chronic and curable forms. Some of these diseases can be passed on to humans and other animals, while some diseases are specific to goats. Two diseases that can bring sudden death to a goat are coccidiosis and pneumonia. Of greater concern to breeders and producers are worms and parasites. A goat that is infested with parasites and worms and left untreated will most likely suffer a rapid decline in health, production and often result in death.

All of us live different lives and there may be some of you out there who go into battle each and every day within your own society. For that reason, I created a list of all the known persuasion techniques that master persuaders use to influence people and get what they want.

Nevertheless, please take note that with great power comes great responsibility. Always use your knowledge for the benefit of everyone and not just your own. Do you get that, Spidey?

How To Make People Cooperate

1. Humor – If you can make people laugh, you make them feel good. This allows you to easily establish a relationship with them.

2. Smile – First impressions last, and first impressions created with a smile is definitely an advantage. Try smiling at every person you come across the street and you’ll see what I mean.

3. Respect – We all know that respect is earned and not given. However, you should always give respect, initially, to any person you meet. It’s always easy to do a favor for someone who shows you respect.

4. Build instant rapport – People who can create rapport instantly with anyone has more friends and can establish good relationships than those who can’t.

5. Use body language – Understanding body language is part of the plan. Our everyday communication is 55% body language. Although you get the signals unconsciously from the people you talk to, knowing how to consciously recognize these signals is a plus in the art of persuasion.

6. The Halo Effect – We usually categorize people as generally good or generally bad. Any trait that you show to a person in the future can be influenced by what you show today. Make sure that anyone you meet today will get the impression that you are generally good.

7. Similarity – Birds of the same feather, flock together, don’t they? If you can always find a way to immediately learn what’s similar between you and the other person, you can easily create a bond. This bond will eventually develop into trust which is always what you need to get people to do something for you.

8. Goodwill – Always be genuine when showing interest in other people. Being sincere about your concern for other people will make them like you quicker.

9. Bonding – People’s names sound like jingle bells to their ears. Call people by their names and they will give you more attention.

The Mirroring and Matching Techniques

10. Mirror their language – Mirroring is a technique used in neuro-linguistic programming to unconsciously establish rapport with a person. Using the same kind of language that the other person is using can help you build that rapport in no time at all.

11. Match their breathing – Breathing alone can help you establish rapport that you will use in persuasion. The effectiveness of this technique relies on its concealment. Who will ever notice that someone is trying to copy their breathing pattern anyway?

12. Match their voice – Matching a person’s voice works on the unconscious level as all of the mirroring techniques you see here.

13. Mirror their moods – When a friend of yours is in a bad mood, do you approach them with a joke? Of course not. Always determine people’s mood before you try and make them do what you want.

14. Match their energy level – A person’s energy level will give you an indication of how prone they are to suggestions. If you can be as happy or lively as they are, it may be much easier for you to lead them toward your plan.

Applying Cognitive Dissonance

15. Create commitments – If you can get people to commit, it is more likely for that person to do what you’ve asked them to do. They will be left with an uncomfortable feeling that will last for a certain time if they do so otherwise.

16. Use written commitments – Written commitments are stronger than verbal agreements. Aside from that, it can serve as some kind of contract between you and the other person.

17. Create public commitments – Even stronger than written commitments are public commitments. Not only will there be a concern about the relationship, the person’s reputation is also at stake.

18. Use external incentives – Business people always use incentives for their employees. Although the motivation it provides only lasts for a short period, it still gets the job done.

19. Always make them say “Yes” – This is a kind of conditioning wherein the person’s response is matched with the stimulus you provide which, in this case, is your request.

20. Make them give an effort – If you can get people to invest an effort, it’s more likely that they will stick to your plans or execute your requests.

21. Create dissonance and offer a solution – If you’re planning to make someone feel uncomfortable to get them to do what you want, just make sure to offer a way out.

Creating A Sense Of Obligation

22. Gift giving – How do you feel when someone gives you a gift and you don’t have anything to give back? Pretty awful, isn’t it? You’ll likely say, “Geez, don’t have anything for you. Just let me know if you need anything…” Ain’t that powerful?

23. Mutual concession – There will be times when someone will try to influence your mind wherein you might feel helpless after realizing you don’t agree to what just happened. Don’t worry! What the other person does not know is that he/she is just as vulnerable when it’s your turn to make them agree to your demand.

24. Give a favor, get one back – Sometimes, people will do things for you whether you like it or not. The problem with this is that it generates a need to reciprocate within the recipient’s mind. If you’re a generous person who finds happiness in giving favors for other people without expecting anything in return, just make sure you let them know.

25. Sharing secrets – Share a secret to create a bond, a sense of obligation, and a feeling of trust. Just remember, the kinds of secrets you share should depend on the kind of person you’re sharing it with.

The Power Of Groupthink

26. Create a group – The larger the group, the better. Humans have a strong need to socialize. People attach themselves to groups to have a sense of belonging. If you want people to conform with your ideals, strengthen the group and make it grow.

27. Make everyone familiar – If you can get people to strongly identify with your group, the easier it will be to influence their behavior. Also make sure that everyone is similar in the way they think.

28. Establish your principles – Companies usually have principles which they package in the form of mission and vision statements. It’s important that people within your organization or your group learn to adhere to these principles.

The Law Of Scarcity

29. Illustrate the potential loss – The possibility of losing someone or something may sometimes make us feel that our freedom is being restricted. Sometimes, people act irrational when this happens. When you’re offering a product or a service, add a sense of potential loss and see how much difference it makes.

30. Tell them they can’t have it – At times it makes you wonder why you’ll try everything to get something you can’t have. Freedom of choice may have something to do with it.

31. Increase demand; limit the supply – When there’s a strong demand for a product or a service, people tend to flock toward it. People are always inclined to purchase that which is in-demand.

32. Create an appeal – To generate interest in you or what you have, create an appeal by making yourself appear special. Surround yourself with good company and fancy objects to attract more people.

33. Show exclusivity – When you try the previous suggestion, you’re already making yourself exclusive. People just can’t get to you and they have to work their way through obstacles (if you want to call it that). The mere effort of trying to get close to you will give you an assurance that they will do anything to please you.

34. Announce a deadline – Procrastination is your biggest enemy. To make sure that your requests or instructions are executed at the time you expect it to be done, always put up a deadline.

35. Restrict their freedom – A person’s desire always influences his/her behavior. Once you tell people that they can’t have something, the more they will clamor for it. Believe me, this trick is a favorite amongst presidents.

The Language of Persuasion

36. Use double speak – Avoid using offensive words and substitute them with less offensive ones. For example: use “mentally challenged” instead of “idiot,” “communication” instead of “propaganda,” “enhanced interrogation” instead of “torture,” and so on.

37. Play with numbers – When you are demonstrating something, play around with numbers in your attempt to persuade. Try something like, “close to nine out of ten” or “fewer than five out of every…”

38. Use positive words – What you want is for people to feel confident and comfortable in doing what you want. Hence, use positive words whenever you’re trying to communicate.

39. Pack words with emotion – Emotion packed words are extremely useful in making people act. Just look at how George W. Bush used the word “terrorist” in his campaign against enemies of the U.S.

40. Be silent – After closing a deal, the best thing to do is to be silent. The person has already made his choice and you don’t want to ruin the whole thing by accidentally giving the other guy contradicting ideas.

41. Paint pictures with words – Isn’t it nice to spend some time walking at the park with those lovely trees all over the place, swaying back and forth to the flow of fresh air? 42. Choose the right words – Using the right words can sometimes make a big difference. Instead of saying, “Sir, I’m sure we’ll have trouble convincing the staff about your plans.” try, “Sir, I’m sure the staff will greatly appreciate it and give you more approval if we try other means.”

43. Replace “you” with “let’s” – You can get more cooperation from people by replacing “you” with “let’s.” The phrase “let us” gives a hint of involvement on your part. So let’s try using “let’s” from now on.

44. Use simple statements – Give your instructions in simple, direct, and brief statements. Not only is it easier to remember, but it is also easier to understand and absorb.

45. Use everyday language – Complicated language will only confuse your listeners and/or your readers. Sure you got an enormous vocabulary, but if you talk like an intellectually dexterous individual (geek) all the time, it’s more likely that you’ll just be misinterpreted.

47. Avoid jargon and technical language – If the person you’re talking to is working in the same field as you are, then there’s no problem with this. In most cases, however, you interact with different people. Like I said earlier, just use everyday language.

48. Keep sentences short – In the early centuries, a single sentence can stand as a whole paragraph. Today, we’re clearly living in a world where a single word such as “party” is enough to say it all. With that said, “let’s” “party.”

49. Don’t beat around the bush – If you have something to say, say it directly.

50. Use verbs – Action words are more likely to make people move. Keep in mind that the words you say are being imagined by the person you’re talking to. Thought precedes movement.

56. Adjust your volume – Always speak loud enough so that people can hear you. If you’re speaking in front of a crowd, test the sound system first to ensure that your audience will not end up being deaf after your presentation.

57. Be more articulate – Ideas that are communicated in a smooth flow and a coherent way adds more credibility. People are more likely to act on your requests or instructions when they are able to fully understand what you’re trying to say.

58. Take some time to pause – Emphasis does not necessarily mean you should only speak louder, more fluently, in a low voice, and so on. There are times when you need to pause so that people will have time to absorb what you just said.

Distinction and Contrast

59. Triple the value – If you are selling a product, people are more likely to buy it when they see an extra value. Whatever you are selling, try adding a discount, bonus products, a warranty, or anything else that will give the impression of a good deal.

60. Change their perspective – When you talk to a salesperson, try to observe how they breakdown the price of what they are selling into ridiculously small easy monthly payments. This is called reframing.

61. Shift their focus – This is a technique used by advertisers to put your attention on the “lighter” side of the picture. Is the glass half full or is it half empty? Is it bad for your purse or is it good for your health?

65. Use the right timing – In order for the previous technique to be effective, always state your real request immediately after the earlier ones.

66. Take note of the situation – Are you in the office, in class, in a party, inside a church, or inside a bar? Different places have different moods. Be aware of the situation to be able to match the person’s mood.

The Power of Suggestion

67. Expect to affect – Expectation is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Did you know that you can affect people’s behavior just by showing them your expectations?

68. Consider it done! – You’ve probably heard this before. However, you’re not supposed to be the one to say this. Whenever you send out instructions, just imagine the other person uttering these words to give strength to your unconscious signals.

The Tantric Tradition of Genital Typing – Does Size Really Matter?

Have you ever wondered why some men and women are better matched than others?

When I say fit, I actually mean genital fit. I know this may sound a bit cliche, but it’s true that not only size can make a difference, but so can the smell, taste, color and shape of one’s genitals.

It was part of the tantric tradition to characterize the genitals of women and men in both Indian and Taoist cultures. In classical Indian texts, women are divided into four different types, a tradition that was maintained in the Tantric era. And similar classification systems have been found in the Taoist tradition and even in some Indian tribes.

Hindus not only classified the yoni type of women, but they also categorized the size of genitals for men. The value of genitalia typing varied from culture to culture, but it was thought that by defining different yoni and lingam types, one could understand the sexual preferences in lovemaking for that type of person. Close size matching for both lingam and yoni was also considered important for sexual compatibility. In Hindu tradition, there are three types of yoni and lingam; the hare, bull and horse for men and the deer, mare and elephant for women. Animal names were often used because nature was a wonderful way of identifying certain characteristics that were similar, if not exact, in humans.

The Taoist system seemed somewhat patriarchal to me, as they favored young virgins over other women, limiting their type system.

But I found the Cherokee Indian system of genital typing to be very accurate and helpful in understanding the differences between women and men and how to sexually please each different type.

The Sweet Medicine Quodoushka is a form of Tantra supposedly developed by the Cherokee Indians, but it was mainly brought forth by Harley Swift Deer, a Cherokee Indian Medicine Man. Harley Swift Deer founded the Metis Deer Tribe, an entire Native American teaching that includes sexuality.

It was many years ago when I first started studying tantra with Lori Grace that I learned about the Cherokee Indian Tantric system and its genital typing. It was a revelation to me at the time and the information I received seemed to be so accurate. In this system there are 9 types for both males and females and they are on a medicine wheel.

There are 5 basic types and then 4 combinations that can make a total of 9 types. For women there are Deer, Wolf, Buffalo, Sheep and Dancing, and for men there are Bear, Coyote, Deer, Horse and Dancing. But a man can be a combination of both a dancing man and a bear man, or as I like to call this type a dancing bear man. Or a woman can be both a sheep and a buffalo woman. This would mean that she has the combined characteristics of both types. It has been my experience teaching this information in a workshop that the women are quite faithful to the characteristics identified in this system. The characteristics identified for males and females include: size of penis or vagina, taste of fluids, odor, distance between vaginal opening and clitoris, lubrication and location of G-Spot, temperature of fluids, the types of movements she/he could make favor, positions for both sexes, how long it takes a person to cum and the type of orgasm they can have. (There are also 4 types of orgasms in this system) This system is so accurate that it is the primary system I use when I teach.

You may be wondering at this point what studying this information can do for me? Again, the main reason you would study this is that you would become a better lover for your partner(s). The more information you have about a person’s sexual characteristics, the more equipped you will be as a lover. I also find that understanding the different characteristics that create a harmonious and compatible fit helps you choose lovers with those characteristics or find other ways to make it work.

An example is the myth that all women love a big lingam. Well, I’m here to bust this myth, because a woman who doesn’t have a deep yoni, like a Wolf or Buffalo Woman, won’t like a Horse Man very much. But maybe she thinks a dancing man is just perfect. Wolf Woman has a fairly shallow yoni that is not very deep, about 6 inches (15 cm). So a dancing man’s lingam which is about 15-18 cm is perfect for that type. So this information can be very practical and help you understand why some people are better together than others. I also feel that knowing this information will make you more accept what you have been given instead of judging it.

In many native cultures, including the Cherokee Indians, both men and women underwent ordination before taking their rightful place in society as male or female. The men had a Firewoman as their guide and the Women a Fireman to teach them many skills related to relationships and housekeeping, including how to make love to each of the five basic sexual types. This could take a few years and once completed the person was ready to get married.

Today, we no longer learn these skills as part of our preparation for adulthood. So by taking the time to study Tantra and learn about different sexual characteristics, you will get the training you missed as a young man or woman. Today we have to do that for ourselves.

As a Tantra teacher I have discovered that you can never know everything when it comes to sexuality. There is always something new to discover, explore and taste in the sexual arena. I encourage all of you to take the time to learn more about yourself and what your partner likes.

Learning how to be a skillful, crafty, and sincere lover is a gift you give not only to yourself, but also to the men or women you work with. You may not want to learn how to sexually please different men or women, but knowing what type you and your partner are will broaden your sex education and increase the pleasure you give each other. I always say you can never learn too much about how to be a great lover.
